On Sat, I met with Joe, Josephine and a student at J.east and shared a cab to JJC for our annual CDAC camp.
The rest are already there in the morning... we reached and aft leaving our belongings in the classrooms, gathered together with our group (assigned earlier) and continue with the games. It was quite fun, we had this station games organised by the Redhill volunteers and my group really put in alot of effort. Every of the kids were involved and co-volunteers in my group were super "on". Simple instructions were given and the kids began playing and earning points.. These points will lead to the final score and results to be announced on Sun.
By dinner, all the volunteers were exhausted and my appetite gone. I couldn't eat at all. Brought the girls to take their bath, and then pitch tents. Finally, they were into the last activity of the day - Night walk. We had to visit afew "stations" within JJC and look for hidden ping-pong balls. It was a very warm night and the kids ended up in perspiration... imagine! Lights were out at 12midnight and by then, I was happily home, taking a cool bath and relaxing in front of my tv. Well, the Jurong volunteers as happening as usual arranged to meet up for supper at Boon Lay Food Centre for nasi lemak at 1am. They even climbed out of the gate coz the guard was patrolling and out of sight! Went back JJC ard 2+am and started to prepare for our treasure hunt activity. Some of us went around, with a torch light and little bits of paper and began looking for marvellous hidding places for the kids to search in the morning... All of us had alot of fun and were v satisfied with ourselves.. haha... oh, not to forget, we did have a very good assistant - Jason.. a current student of JJC who suggested many good hiding places!!!
Sentry duty was at 4.30am... by then some of us had gone to bed... leaving Jinghui, Shee Hian, Xueting, Joe and myself to take care of the kids. Me n Xueting went into the girls' room as it was cooler there and I ended up taking a 30mins nap on a girl's sleeping bag... dead-beat and cannot take it anymore.
While the kids and other volunteers were taking part in our treasure hunt activity, Jurong volunteers prepared for our next activity - the Set Meal Challenge... some of us even acted as "Santa Claus" and went around, giving obvious clues and bonuses to some groups so that they earn enough points to "buy" ingredients from us later... Creativity was in the blood of the students... all 7 groups had to "produce" a drink, sandwich and salad to the panel of judges.
Debrief was ard 2+pm and by the time I reached home at 2.50pm, my body felt as if it was falling apart. Had a quick shower and went to bed immediately.. Woke up at 9+pm with v v bad migraine... started vomiting non-stop. Tried to drink milo and plain bread but those came out as well :( Sick!
